52 Books in 52 Weeks - Book 20: Home

This is another fantastic novel by Marilynne Robinson, author of Gilead. This novel also takes place in same time frame as Gilead, and in the same town. Characters that receive mention in the previous novel are the featured characters in Home. Like it's counterpart, the lead character, Reverend Boughton is an elderly pastor. His daughter, Glory, has returned home to care for him as he nears the end of his life. She is joined by her brother Jack, the families prodigal son. Jack has been gone from home for decades - but his father never failed to pray for him and hope for his return. This story details how two adult children come to be caretakers of their father in his last months on Earth. Not only that, but it tells a poignant story of faith and the struggle to grab hold. Home gives those of us with older parents much to be grateful for and those of us who know or have known prodigal sons, much to pray for. Those who enjoyed Gilead will also love to read Home - a wonderful book to read anytime of the year.
