52 Books in 52 Weeks - Book 24: The Summer Kitchen
Life transitions make such good stories, don't you think? They give us hope that we will also endure the transitions that we encounter in our lives and come out better in the end. The Summer Kitchen by Lisa Wingate is one such story. Ms. Wingate forges a community of people out of a cast of characters many of us won't encounter in our lifetime: the grieving niece, some runaway children, an elderly lady caring for her disabled son. As the characters become aware of each other and the different lives they leave, they are bound together by the simplest of needs: a meal to nourish the body and relationships that heal and nourish the soul. I highly recommend this book - it is both an easy summer read as well as a book that makes the reader pause and consider their own community and what is important to those around them.
