Weekly Report: Week 3

This was our busiest week yet, school wise. The work on the house is complete and we are mostly unpacked. This week for school, we ran Bible, History and Art. Bible and History are much the same as they were last week, but Art was very different. This week Rocket Boy participated in a Mark Kistler drawing camp. He spent two hours every day drawing with Mark. We have long been a fan of his after stumbling across his book several years ago, then finding some old videos on YouTube. Rocket Boy enjoys drawing so much, that when the opportunity came to take class in person with Mark, Rocket Boy jumped at the chance. He had a great time. One day while he was in class, Rocket Boy drew this on his folder:
For some reason, it uploaded sideways. I can't figure out why.

The next day, Mark Kistler noticed the drawing on his folder and used it as the basis for a lesson! Here's Mark's version:
Here is Mark and the picture he drew using Rocket Boy's concept!

We are so excited for Rocket Boy and proud of his creativity!

In the extracurricular arena, the First Lego League season has started. This year there are six boys on the team - four have returned and two are new to FLL. The Body Forward Challenge was released on Thursday and already the team has made progress with both their field strategy and their research project. We are looking forward to the fun (and work) of the season!

This upcoming week we will be working on a much fuller schedule - hopefully we will be at full speed by the end of the week!
